Common Electrical Issues Blog

Problems with Light Bulbs and Fixtures:

Light Bulbs Burning out at a High Rate?

There can be many causes for light bulbs burning out at a high rate. If the wattage of a light bulb in a fixture is too high and the fixture cannot dissipate it’s heat it can take a toll on the bulb and as a result cause a short lifespan. Other things can contribute too like the basic voltage level coming into a home or business from the utility.

Sometimes recessed lights may turn off and then back on periodically for seemingly no reason, usually this is a built in safety feature that is protecting the fixture and ceiling from overheating or burning. This is usually a good sign that either the wrong light bulb wattage is being used or that the cutout around the bulb may be too close.

If you are experiencing any of the problems above or any other electrical issues and would like one of our skilled Los Angeles Electricians to come out and take a look, give us a call today!

Ways to Prevent Electric Shock During Do-It-Yourself projects:

Be Cautious: It is extremely important to remember to be cautious when working with electrical circuits. Electrical shock is often looked at as something that is dangerous and can hurt but many people forget that it can be fatal.

Take Your Time: If you embark on a Do-It-Yourself electrical project remember to take it slow. Many accidents happen because people are careless or in hurry and could have been avoided all together if more time were alotted to a project from the start.

Shut Off the Power: It is extremely important to remember to shut off the power to any circuit or device that you are working on. Shutting off the power is always the first thing you should do before you go reaching for your tools. Plus as a fun fact, I have yet to encounter anyone who has been shocked by a powerless circuit.

Double Check the Circuit: After you shut off the power, double check to make sure it is off.

Ladders: Sometimes a ladder is necessary when embarking on an electrical project such as installing a ceiling fan or fixing lighting. In the event you must use a ladder it is important to use a ladder made of wood and never aluminum.
